Research topics

The Biometry and Evolutionary Biology laboratory (LBBE) is part of CNRS (Unit 5558) and University of Lyon (University Claude Bernard Lyon 1). Research topics encompass various aspects of Biometry (or Biostatistics) and Evolutionary Biology.

Research themes in the lab are clustered around a methodology (emphasizing the importance of modeling and informatics in life and medical sciences), and an evolutionary perspective, regardless of the investigation level (from molecules to communities). This double angle results in a synergy between methodological developments and biological questions.

The lab includes three departments, each divided in several research groups.

The Genetics and evolutionary genomics department focuses on evolutionary processes at the genetic level and includes four groups:
- Bio-informatics and evolutionary genomics
- BAOBAB (Biology and Algorithmic Or Better Algorithmic and Biology)
- Genetics and evolution of host parasite interactions
- Transposable elements, evolution and populations

The Evolutionary ecology department investigates adaptive processes at the phenotypic level and includes three groups:
- Insect biology and evolutionary ecology
- Evolutionary ecology of populations
- Behavioral ecology and population dynamics

The BioMaths-Health department includes four groups using modeling in epidemiology and clinical research, with a population approach:
- Epidemiology and public health
- Biostatistics / Health
- Evaluation and modeling of therapeutic effects
- Modeling and biological hazard

The laboratory comprises 96 permanent positions and about as many post-graduate students and post-docs. The lab has strong links with the Rhone-Alpes Bioinformatics Center (PRABI) for methodological developments and with the Biology-Environment–Health institute (IFR41, University of Lyon).
