Research topics

The ICJ is one the two mathematics laboratories of the University of Lyon. It is home to mathematics and applied mathematics researchers from the supervisory establishments. At UCBL, there are 124 permanent members mainly based in the department of mathematics, as well as in Polytech Lyon, the Institut de science financière et d’assurances [Institute of science, finance and insurance] and in the IUT.

The research carried out at the Institut Camille Jordan covers practically the entire range of mathematics. The Institut Camille Jordan is a laboratory recognised for both its academic successes, which have earned it various awards (prizes, nominations) providing a source of considerable national and international funding, and for its cutting-edge position in applied research, in particular via its members from engineering schools and via the common team-project with INRIA (DRACULA), working on several applied directions related to hematopoieisis.

ICJ at the heart of the network

The Institut Camille Jordan works with the Laboratoire d’excellence [Laboratory of excellence - Labex] MILYON which brings together the Lyon mathematics and Computer Science community, based on three areas: research, higher education, dissemination.
With the mathematics laboratories of Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, Chambéry, the Institut Camille Jordan forms the Fédération de recherche en mathématique Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne [Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne Federation of Mathematics Research - FRMRAA].
Confluentes Mathematici is an open-access electronic mathematics research journal, published since 2009 by the Institut Camille Jordan and the Pure and Applied Mathematics Unit. The log publishes original, high level articles in the fields of mathematics, mathematical physics and the history of mathematics.
Dissemination to the general public
The Institut Camille Jordan is involved in various actions for the general public. These actions are, for the most part, a collaboration between the ICJ, the Maison des Mathématiques et de l'Informatique [Mathematics and IT Centre - MMI], the department of mathematics of Lyon 1 university, UMPA at ENS Lyon, and IREM Lyon.

The ICJ puts on exhibitions, workshops and conferences for all kinds of audience, from primary schools to universities, in particular during the science festival at the Lyon 1 open day, the mathematics rally of the academy, the mathematics club of Lyon 1, which organises Olympiads and other events.
