Research topics

Since 1998, the leading institutions of higher education in Lyon (ENS, INSA, ECL, UCBL) are engaged in a process of federation and mutualisation of their computing resources localized at the Doua, Gerland, et Ecully campuses.

The HPC mesocenter of the "Fédération Lyonnaise de Calcul Haute Performances" (FLCHP) is recognized and financed by the French Ministry of Research and the Rhône-Alpes region. The FLCHP provides O(200) active users from a broad scientific spectrum with 15 TFlops of computing power.

Together with the Institut of Complex Systems (IXXI) and the local maison de la modelisation, the Centre Blaise Pascal (CBP), the FLCHP has set out to form the Fédération Lyonnaise « Modélisation Sciences Numériques » (FLMSN), a project that was favorably evaluated by the AERES.

Numerous contacts exist on the regional level with Grenoble : IXXI is organized at this scale, the FLCHP actively cooperates with its homologue CIMENT a Grenoble within the CPER CIRA (Calcul Intensif Rhône-Alpes 2007-2013), the CBP and the Maison de Modelisation in Grenoble cooperate with the Rhône-Alpes node of the Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire (CECAM). Informal contacts between the mesocenters exist within the groupe CALCUL of the CNRS;
