Research topics

The C2P2 unit covers an impressive range of unique skills that are rarely found in once place - and in the same laboratory. This constitutes a distinct advantage which achieves recognition for the teams, positioning them uniquely, both nationally and internationally. This research is based on strong, often original concepts, and is backed up by a scientific approach with real achievements: new reactions, more effective, more selective reactions, reactions that consume less energy and raw materials etc. It covers the broad fields of catalysis and chemistry: from petrochemistry to fine chemistry, from large industrial polymers to complex macromolecular architectures, from organic and inorganic nano-materials to hybrid nano-particles - with the constant aim of integrating the process. For all of these subjects, the research is in an ascendant phase, with the emergence of new subjects, often closely linked with the important economic and societal issues of our time. The link with large chemical companies helps to hone this vision, without impeding the strategic freedom of the unit to define its own fields of research, for which there is a balance between public and private funding.

The laboratory is located in a top-level scientific environment, and is closely intertwined with the local economy through collaboration and partnerships. The structuring of the Lyon chemical industry through ICL is one of the best examples. The institute and its research units associated with it have provided access to high level resources that are essential for developing cutting-edge subjects. The competitiveness clusters, such as Axelera and Plastipolis foster the emergence of partnerships with local industry, which for some has taken the form of close collaboration with UMR 5223, Engineering of Polymers. The CPE school where we are located also gives access to an MRN platform, and more generally offers a place of work where the hygiene and safety regulations are closely monitored. The unit itself enjoys access to many resources for synthesis and characterisation. It is able to work under difficult conditions and in a controlled atmosphere. It has a series of sophisticated reactors that cover a large of P, T, volumes and processes. Finally, researchers play a very significant role in teaching at the School of chemistry, physics and electronics (CPE) and Claude Bernard University (UCB), and take on a lot of placement and doctoral students.
